Leave of Absence
The University provides a variety of leave time including Family and/or Medical Leave, bereavement leave, personal leave, military leave, and a staff sabbatical leave. Eligibility and benefits vary for each form of leave.
Tuition Benefits
A full-time and regular part-time employees (as defined in the Employee Handbook), spouse and dependents (according to IRS regulations) are eligible as follows for a supplemental tuition grant the next semester after they are hired. Room, board, and fees are not included.
Undergraduate courses are offered remission as follows:
• Full-time employees: 100%
• Regular part-time employees: 50%
Graduate courses are offered remission as follows:
• Full-time employees: 65%
• Regular part-time employees: 33%
Tuition Exchange Programs Full-Time Employees Only
Through Avila’s membership council of Independent Colleges, Tuition Exchange, and the Catholic University Cooperative Tuition Exchange, eligible dependents may participate in the University tuition exchange program with other member colleges and universities. The Director of Financial Services coordinate this benefit (See Employee Handbook for more detail).
Volunteer Time Release
The purpose of this philanthropic program is to support activities that enhance and serve communities in which we live and work and the issues that impact quality of life. (See Employee Handbook for more detail).
Health and Wellness Time Release
The program provides release time to participate in a personally selected wellness program (See Employee Handbook for more detail).
Holidays
The University observes 11 designated holidays plus up to five floating holidays. The University publishes a schedule of designated and floating holidays to be observed during each year (See Employee Handbook for more detail). Holidays are outlined on the Holiday tab.
Vacations Staff Only
Three-tiered program with a minimum of 10 days for first twelve months. Part-time employees shall receive vacation on a pro-rated basis (See Employee Handbook for more detail).
Sick Leave
A full-time employee (Staff and faculty) received one day of paid sick leave for each full month of employment up to a maximum accumulated total of 240 hours. Part-time employees shall receive sick leave on a pro-rated basis (See Employee Handbook for more detail).
Worker’s Compensation
Avila carrier’s insurance in case an employee is injured on the job. Any employee who is injured or involved in an accident or contracts an illness in the course and scope of his or her employment must immediately report such injury, accident, or illness to the Campus Security Department and Human Resources.
